Little Showstoppers, a Saturday morning musical theatre class for 4 to 9 year olds.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new class for 4-9 year olds at Vivo D’Arte School of Theatre Arts. Little Showstoppers has been designed by our deeply experienced team to introduce little ones to the joy of musical theatre. The class will run every Saturday, from 10am to 1130am and will cover each of the main musical theatre disciplines (that’s singing, acting and dancing).

We know that musical theatre classes offer a huge range of benefits for young children, helping to nurture their creativity, confidence, and social skills. And, of course, make new friends. But it’s about so much more than that. So, we thought we’d share some of the benefits of our classes

Boosts Confidence and Self-Esteem

Performing in front of others helps children build confidence in expressing themselves. Whether through singing, dancing, or acting, they gain self-assurance by participating in group performances, which encourages them to step out of their comfort zones in a fun and supportive environment.

Enhances Communication Skills

Musical theatre encourages children to articulate clearly, express emotions, and project their voice. These skills help improve their overall communication abilities, both in performance and daily life, as they learn how to interact with others on stage and in rehearsals.

Fosters Creativity and Imagination

Theatre is a powerful tool for igniting a child’s imagination. Through role-playing and storytelling, kids get the opportunity to explore different characters, scenarios, and emotions, fostering their creativity and ability to think outside the box.

Improves Coordination and Motor Skills

The dancing and movement components of musical theatre help young children develop physical coordination, balance, and motor skills. Choreography, in particular, challenges them to synchronise movement with music, improving their body awareness and physical control.

Encourages Teamwork and Collaboration

In musical theatre, children work together to create a production, which teaches the importance of teamwork and collaboration. They learn to listen to each other, share the spotlight, and support one another to achieve a common goal.

Develops Emotional Intelligence

Acting and performing help children explore and express a range of emotions in a safe space. By stepping into the shoes of different characters, they develop empathy, learning how to understand and communicate feelings, which contributes to emotional maturity.

Supports Cognitive Development

Musical theatre combines music, movement, and memory, all of which stimulate cognitive development. Learning lyrics, choreography, and dialogue improves memory, attention to detail, and critical thinking.

Enhances Language and Literacy Skills

Memorising scripts, lyrics, and songs introduces new vocabulary, language patterns, and sentence structures, enhancing literacy skills. Additionally, children may develop a better understanding of rhythm, rhyme, and phonetics through musical performance.

Promotes Social Skills and Friendships

Musical theatre classes provide a social environment where children meet new peers, form friendships, and learn how to work as part of a group. It helps shy children open up and become more comfortable in social settings, as they collaborate with others on group performances.
